Support Groups
One of the ways that School Counselors can foster healthy social-emotional learning is by offering support groups. Small group counseling is an excellent way for students to learn skills, develop self-awareness and confidence, practice new behaviors, and better understand how to effectively deal with some of the issues/concerns life presents. We have found that when we work with students in groups, they gain support from others who are experiencing similar situations or who have adjusted well after experiencing a similar situation in the past.
We conducted a Needs Assessment on our students and they identified the following groups as the Top 3 topics that they are interested in learning more about:
-Social Skills- Students will practice following directions, learn effective communication skills, demonstrate the ability to resolve conflicts and more.
-Stress/Anxiety Management- Students will learn what anxiety and depression are, practice mindfulness skills, analyze thinking errors and enhance their resiliency coping skills.
-Self-Esteem- Students will explore their personality traits, how to make and keep friends and practice how to give and receive feedback.
If any students are interested in participating in any of the support groups listed above, they can e-mail me or fill out a contact form on my Contact tab.
